Private Tours, Events & Hunts

We love to create custom experiences around The Innovation Trail for groups.

Just send us a quick inquiry with your desired date, timeframe, and group size. We organize these experiences year-round, and they can include:

• Walking tours of The Innovation Trail (1 to 2.5 hours long, with special focuses and routes)

• Fun (and competitive) scavenger hunts that break your group up into teams to solve puzzles and snap photos around Cambridge’s Kendall Square or Downtown Boston.

• Special hosted visits and tours at the MIT Museum, Draper Lab, the Museum of Medical History and Innovation at MassGeneral, the Broad Institute’s Broad Discovery Center, startup incubator spaces LabCentral and CIC, and Akamai’s Network Operations Command Center.

• Special speakers on Boston’s startup ecosystem, current MIT research, life sciences, urban development, and more.

• Our private tours, scavenger hunts, and custom speaker agendas can be integrated into your conference, company off-site, or other activities while in Boston or Cambridge.

How much are private tours and events?

Private walking tour pricing begins at $300. Our walking tours are led by the award-winning, knowledgable, and friendly staff of Boston History Company. Our tours are consistently rated ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ on TripAdvisor, Google, Yelp, and GetYourGuide. In 2023, we won a Best of Boston Award for “Best Walking Tour” from Boston Magazine.

Where do private tours start and end?

Our guide-led tours can start anywhere along or close to The Innovation Trail in Downtown Boston, Cambridge’s Kendall Square, or Central Square. We can organize special talks and events in your conference space, or arrange for space at a convenient Boston or Cambridge location.

How does the scavenger hunt work?

Scavenger hunts can accommodate up to 100 participants. Groups are broken into teams of 4 or 5, and they use a mobile app to complete challenges around a walkable area in Boston or Cambridge over the course of an hour. At the end of the hour, they reconvene to celebrate the winners — and receive prizes. We’ve run scavenger hunts that include both kids and adults. They don’t require any special knowledge or expertise to do well at — and participants don’t have to ask random people questions or for objects. They just solve puzzles, snap photos, and use their phones to “check in” at a specific location.
